ZEdit: Find and Replace ("the extension") replaces text on the webpages you choose to run it on. This policy explains exactly what data the extension handles, what stays on your device, and what is sent to our server.
Summary
- We do not collect, store, transmit or sell the content of the pages you visit.
- We do not track your browsing history and we do not use analytics or advertising services.
- Your rules and settings are stored locally on your device.
- Nothing is sent to our server unless you deliberately turn on sync.
Data stored on your device
The extension saves the following in the browser's local extension storage. It stays on your device and is not readable by websites or by us:
- Rules and rule groups — the search text, replacement text, matching options and the domains you assign to each rule.
- Recent entries — the last search and replacement terms you typed, so they can be offered again.
- Preferences — interface language, how the extension opens, and other settings you change.
Clearing the extension's data or uninstalling it removes all of the above from your device.
Page content
Replacement happens entirely inside the page you are looking at, on your device. The extension reads the text of a page only while a replacement or a rule is running there, and only in order to display the modified text. Page content, form values, URLs and page titles are never uploaded, logged or shared with anyone. The website itself is never modified — the changes are visual and disappear when you reload the page or press Restore.
Optional sync
Sync is off by default. If you turn it on so your rules follow you between devices, the following data is sent to and stored on our server:
- An account identifier — either the email address you enter, or an anonymous purchase identifier supplied by the store you installed from, depending on how you sign in.
- A sign-in token — a random value used to authenticate your device. It is not a password and it cannot be reused elsewhere.
- Your rules — the same fields listed above, plus the timestamp of the last change so devices can be reconciled.
If you sign in with an email address, it is used only to send you a one-time verification code and to identify your rule set. We do not send marketing email and we do not share the address with third parties.
Synced data is kept until you delete it. Signing out removes the credentials from that device; deleting your rules while signed in removes them from the server. To have your account and all associated data erased, contact us using the link below and we will complete the request within 30 days.
Purchases
Payments are processed entirely by the store you installed the extension from. We never see or receive your payment details. To confirm that a purchase is valid, the extension may pass a store-issued transaction receipt to our server; this receipt identifies the purchase, not you personally.
Permissions
The extension requests only the permissions it needs to work:
- Access to the current page — required to find and replace text in it. Used only when you run a replacement or a rule that you enabled for that site.
- Storage — required to keep your rules and settings on your device.
- Context menu and toolbar access — required to open the extension and to offer your saved rules from the right-click menu.
- Network access — used only for the optional sync described above.
Third parties
The extension contains no analytics, advertising, tracking pixels or third-party SDKs. We do not sell, rent or share personal data. Data is disclosed only if we are legally required to do so.
Children
The extension is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new date above. Material changes will also be noted in the extension's release notes.
